LSU wide receiver Travin Dural and his cousin Southern University wide receiver Randall Menard made headlines when they rescued a woman from an overturned vehicle in late July 2015.
LSU coach Les Miles discussed the story with his Tigers at the start of camp. Reports say he gave Travin a round of applause and called him a great person who will be a good man and good father. Coach Miles is right to give Travin and his cousin Randall their due. Incidents at 10 o’clock at night involving college football players behind the wheel are rarely rescue missions. They’re rarely stories about sobriety or police reports singing their heroics. The challenge for Coach Miles and his college peers is to teach the value of law abiding and positive off field behavior while his student-athletes are still students.
