University of Illinois at Chicago assistant coach Michael Giffin was arrested Saturday (January 28, 2012) in Illinois.

Giffin, 25, was arrested after he allegedly raped a 26-year-old woman, then strangled her until she was unconscious at her apartment in the after they had met at a bar. Giffin was allegedly invited upstairs for a drink by the victim, but when she said she was tired and needed to go to sleep, Giffin threatened to kill her, then raped her repeatedly. When Giffin later went to use the bathroom, the woman tried to escape by running out into a hallway in her apartment building and screaming for help. But Giffin grabbed her by the ankles and dragged her back, then choked her until she passed out. Neighbors who had heard the victim’s cries called police and Giffin was arrested.

Dalonte Hill Arrested

Darrell Armstrong Arrested

Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Darrell Armstrong was arrested Tuesday (January 17, 2012) in Marina del Rey, California.

Armstrong, 43, was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped for a traffic violation. Police found that Armstrong had an outstanding warrant from Las Vegas for a non-sufficient funds case.

Robert Francis Arrested

St. Petersburg College baseball head coach Robert Francis was arrested Tuesday (December 6, 2011) in Orlando, Florida.

Francis was arrested in a sting operation. Francis contacted an undercover detective posing as a 14-year-old girl in an online chat room. After a conversation, during which Francis allegedly sent a naked picture of himself, he agreed to drive nearly 100 miles to have sex with who he thought was the 14-year-old girl. Francis showed up with condoms, a bottle of wine, and a video camera.

Francis, 31, was later released on a $5,100 bond. He was put on administrative leave by the school after this incident.

Gary Pinkel Arrested

University of Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel was arrested Wednesday (November 16, 2011) night in Boone County, Missouri.

Pinkel was arrested around 10:15 p.m. after he was pulled over for lane and signal violations.

Pinkel, 59, was later released after posting $500 bond.

Trevyn Smith Arrested

Weber State University student assistant football coach Trevyn Smith was arrested early Friday (October 1, 2011) morning in Ogden, Utah.

Smith was arrested after being pulled over around 1 a.m. for driving his motorcycle without headlights. Smith did not have his driver’s license or insurance and registration for the motorcycle. Police also found out that his license was suspended and he had a warrant out of Provo for failing to appear.

Paul Hamm Arrested

Former Olympic gymnast and current Ohio State University assistant gymnastics coach Paul Hamm was arrested Saturday (September 3, 2011) night in Columbus, Ohio.

Hamm was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a taxi driver and wrestled with police. Hamm fell asleep during the cab ride and when the driver woke him up Hamm refused to pay the $23 cab fare. The cab driver said he was trying to help Hamm open the window when Hamm hit him. After an argument, Hamm damaged a window of the cab, punched and kicked the driver. When they arrived, police struggled to get Hamm under control.

Hamm, 28, is a three-time Olympic medalist (1 Gold, 2 Silver), competing at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. He was hired at Ohio State in the spring of 2011.
